Sahrawi students at the University of Agadir on 22 January 2009 protested Fugro-Geoteam's engagement for Moroccan authorities in occupied Western Sahara.
Carrying banners "Fugro-Geoteam go out", and pictures of Sahrawi political prisoners, Sahrawi students arranged a demonstration in Agadir on January 22nd.
Fugro-Geoteam carries out a highly unethical oil exploration programme for Moroccan authorities offshore occupied Western Sahara, in violation of the occupied people's own interests and wishes.
There are no places of higher education in the occupied areas, so Sahrawi students have to travel to Morocco to get studies. There, the students carry out frequent demonstrations for the Sahrawis' right to self-determination.
When Fugro Norway was to promote itself on the Business days at the University of Oslo on 28 September, they were welcomed with cake. In 2009, Fugro was refused to attend the same event due to their engagement in occupied Western Sahara. Since then, the firm has withdrawn from the occupied territory.
Dutch seismic services firm Fugro NV, and its Norwegian subsidiary Fugro-Geoteam, state they do not want to undertake any more assignments in Western Sahara under the current political situation in the country.
